save-the-date-250x250
Continuing our celebration of Free Comic Book Day I proudly present the interview with Chris Samnee. Samnee was the artist behind Marvel’s criminally short lived series Thor The Mighty Avenger and his art is featured in Marvel Comics’ Captain America and Thor: The Mighty Fighting Avengers! Now, today I had a chance to flip through this one and for all you fans of Thor The Mighty Avenger I can tell you it does in fact take place within that books’ continuity!
So, without further delay, let’s jump into the first part of the interview! As always, there will be a banner at the bottom of the interview that will take you to the official Free Comic Book Day website so you can enjoy the full interview!

For Free Comic Book Day 2011, Marvel offers Captain America and Thor: The Mighty Fighting Avengers, giving comic readers a chance to watch Thor and World War II-era Steve Rogers thrown out of time into King Arthur’s court!

Now Chris Samnee, artist on Thor: The Mighty Avenger and Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale, talks about the FCBD title, its characters, the significance of FCBD itself, and much more in Freecomicbookday.com’s exclusive interview.

Freecomicbookday.com: Set your project up for those that might not know much about it. What can we expect to see in terms of story and art?

Chris Samnee: It’s Thor and a World War II-era Steve Rogers tossed back in time to the Middle Ages, where they run into King Arthur…and Thor’s half-brother Loki?

Freecomicbookday.com: What’s your favorite part about being able to work in comics?

Chris Samnee: I really enjoy being able to collaborate with other creators to tell stories that you just can’t find in any other medium. Comics are an amazing and truly unique art form. And the fact that I get to participate in the magic trick that is the combination of works and pictures to tell a story is exactly what keeps me plugging away at it month after month.

Freecomicbookday.com: Why do you think FCBD is so vital to the industry?

Chris Samnee: Having something like FCBD is the perfect venue to get folks of all ages excited about comics, to introduce new readers to them and reward long time readers with a day of free comics.

Freecomicbookday.com: Since FCBD has now been a yearly event since 2002, do you, your creator friends and/or your family have any annual FCBD traditions?

Chris Samnee: For the past few years I’ve gone out to Acme Comics in Greensboro, North Carolina. A great group of folks run the store and they put on an amazing event year after year.

Personally, this is one of the few books I’m REALLY looking forward to this year! It will be available, along with many other titles, this Saturday when comic book stores around the world celebrate Free Comic Book Day!
