First Look:X-Men #1

Nick Furious 05/05/2013 Reviews

Males and Females alike have been pining for this for decades, an X-Book featuring the X-Women.  Even though I feel Emma Frost has earned her place among the best X-Ladies, but she doesn’t appear to have made the roster, nor did Young Jean Grey.  Sorry shafted X-ladies, maybe one of these days.   But that doesn’t stop the fact that Brian Wood’s female X-Team is one of the most promising titles to be added to Marvel Now! in a slew of disappointing revamps.  Look for more on Brian Wood’s New X-Title in the very near future.  Here is the official press release for X-Men #1

Marvel NOW! – X-MEN #1 First Look!

Marvel is pleased to present your first look at the hotly anticipated X-Men #1! Storm, Rogue, Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, Rachel Grey, Rogue & Psylocke redefine what it means to be a Child of the Atom in X-Men #1, kicking off the all-new ongoing series by  the blockbuster creative team of writer Brian Wood (Ultimate Comics X-Men) and artist Oliver Coipel (Avengers VS. X-Men)! An old enemy shows up at the X-Men’s door, seeking asylum from an ancient evil come back to Earth. Meanwhile, Jubilee has come home, and she’s brought with her an orphaned baby who might hold the key to the Earth’s survival…or its destruction! With an imminent alien invasion and an eons-spanning war between brother and sister around the corner, Storm steps up and puts together a team to protect the child and stop a new threat that could destroy all life in the Marvel Universe!

Each issue of X-Men includes a code for a free digital copy on the Marvel Comics app (for iPhone®, iPad®, iPad Touch® & Android devices).

This May, Wood and Coipel take X-Men in an all-new, all-different direction in X-Men #1!

Looks decent. But, small gripe… Shouldn't the title be X-Women? Wouldn't that make more sense? Sigh…

I wouldn't worry about the title… This is Marvel. They'll bring in a new writer eventually, the team will change up, and it won't be the same team of just women anymore. (Although Brian Wood they will probably try to keep for a while…) It's a marketing thing…
