First Look: Earth 2’s Wonder Woman by Jim Lee

Comic Booked Guest Writer 02/29/2012 Reviews

DC Comics gives us another glimpse into the parallel Earth coming in May for The New 52Second Wave” featured prominently in the coming titles Earth 2 and World’s Finest. Today we get a look at Wonder Woman, the last Amazon on Earth 2. The new design is brought to us by legendary artist Jim Lee, the man responsible for most of the DC Universe redesigns. We see this Wonder Woman sporting a more warrior look then her main earth counterpart.  The addition of a gauntlet is cool although it looks a bit bulky and makes me curious to see if she will be deflecting bullets with it. Also with this redesign we see the return of the skirt, used a few times in previous Wonder Woman designs. With all the debate surrounding the main DCU Wonder Woman’s Pants vs. Underwear, one can’t help but wonder what the Wonder Woman fans think of the skirt.

Aside from the cosmetic changes, what else can we expect from Wonder Woman of Earth 2? The Source talked to Earth 2 Writer James Robinson and Editor Pat McCallum for more answers.

“Due the events that open the saga of EARTH 2, Wonder Woman is already the last Amazon of this world and she is determined to avenge her sisters…at whatever cost,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson.

“How did Wonder Woman come to be the last of the Amazons?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “It’s one of the mysteries we’ll be getting into with the series. While there will be recognizable faces and settings on EARTH 2, don’t for a moment think you’re on familiar ground. Do that, and you let your guard down…and then you’ll end up like the rest of the Amazons.”

Below is the design of Earth 2’s Wonder Woman by Jim Lee. What do you think of the design? Are you a fan of the skirt look over pants and underwear? Let us know!

I believe Jim Lee tweeted this, but these designs are all Nicola Scott's who is the Artist of the Earth 2 Series, and these are just Lee's take on them (which makes me think there will be a Earth 1/Earth 2 event soon.) but I could be wrong.

The Source reported that it was in fact designed by Jim Lee. I'll peek around however and see if you are correct and that is a Nicola Scott Design. Most of the designs in the new 52, first and Second Wave are Jim Lee designs even if you are seeing them represented by another artist first, as was the case with Supergirl where we saw MAHMUD ASRAR's cover art first but that look was actually designed by Jim Lee. It's true however he has not had a full hand in all the redesigns so its possible still you are right. I'd love a link to some source if you got it.

Here is the tweet from Jim Lee ‏

@JimLee And in the credit where credit is due dept these Earth2 designs were influenced/inspired from series artist-the amazing Nicola Scott did!

I guess Lee did the redesigns based of what Nicola Scott was doing on the Earth 2 book.

That makes more sense now, he was giving credit to her for inspiring the designs. Thanks for sharing the tweet.
