Fiction Friday: First Annual Comic Booked Fiction Writing Contest

Jeff Hill 05/02/2014 Features

So we’re taking a week off from the regular Fiction Friday adventures to bring you something completely different!

It is my pleasure to announce that Comic Booked (in conjunction with my All Things Writerly and Fiction Friday columns) will be offering its very first fiction writing contest!

Here are the rules:

Email your submission of 100-3,000 words (no more, no less, no argument) to and then your submission fee of $10 to the Paypal account of the same name.  We will be running the contest throughout the rest of Spring and well into Summer, to be announced in the Fall.  There are no subject matter rules.  There are no limits.  Just don’t plagiarize and make sure the work is yours.  Don’t worry about offending anyone.  And don’t hold anything back.  We want real, raw, and above all else, GOOD fiction from you folks.  Of course, you will retain the rights to your work after publication.  We simply ask that if you wish to anthologize or reprint your fiction, that you give us credit.  Or cookies.  (Preferably both.)

Here are the prizes:

1st Place – $100, A Comic Book T-Shirt, and Publication in Fiction Friday

2nd Place – A Comic Book T-Shirt and Publication in Fiction Friday

3rd Place – Publication in Fiction Friday

Feel free to comment below or email me at with any questions.  Best of luck to all of you.  Can’t wait to read your submissions!

About The Author

Jeff Hill is a moderately reformed frat boy turned writer/teacher living the dream in Lincoln, Nebraska. He does freelance work and writes fiction, none of which is about corn or the husking of corn. His work has appeared in over a dozen publications and his mom has a binder full of printed copies for any doubters. Plus, he's the Chief Creative Officer of Comic Booked. So that's pretty neat, too.
