When Tony Stark sacrificed his sobriety on the altar of Odin to gain an audience with the All-Father, his intentions were to use the forges of Asgard to build weapons capable of stopping the enchanted hammers brought to Earth by Sin. What he’s created, however, is the toughest looking Avengers team to date. Being heralded as “The Mighty”, Tony Stark’s Asgardian-powered Avengers looks as intimidating as that phrase sounds. With the conclusion of Fear Itself just around the corner, the battle between The Mighty and the Serpent is bound to be epic.
When Marvel first announced Fear Itself, back in December, they promised it to be a huge, Universe-shaking event. So far, they’ve followed through on that promise. So many things have happened so far, including the death of Captain America, Tony Stark sacrificing his sobriety and Colossus becoming the herald of Cyttorak in an attempt to stop the Juggernaut. I’ll admit that I was hesitant at first about Fear Itself, thinking it would be just another Marvel crossover events meant to spur sales in some lower-selling titles. However, Fear Itself has been a quality story which Marvel has used as a stepping stone for some changes in their Universe, including the return of Alpha Flight.
I’m certainly looking forward to the conclusion of Fear Itself. While seeing the look of the new team is exciting, it will be more exciting to see them in action. Power is one thing; alone, each of these characters is extremely powerful. But I’m more interested in how they use their new power.
