Dark Horse Comics Announces Adaptation of Original Star Wars Script

David Gillette 04/01/2013 News, Reviews

Randy Stradley of Dark Horse Comics announced at WonderCon that George Lucas requested they adapt his original Star Wars screenplay into a comic.

Adapted from the original 1974 script The Star Wars, which is radically different than the film fans came to love, the adaptation will run eight issues in length. Fans should recognize some similarities like character names such as Darth Vader and Han Solo, except in this Han is a lizard.

Other variations on familiar things include General Luke Skywalker and Anakin Starkiller. Stradley explained that in this original source material, the Emperor was more of a puppet character, and the Sith make their appearance as the Sith Overlords.

This development provides an interesting what if for fans of the iconic movie franchise, allowing a look at what could have been.

Here’s a look at never been released images for the new comic. The following image is the first completed page of art from issue 1, page 2 with subsequent pictures part of the adaptation concept art.

I'm just glad Marvel won't have anything to do with it. Looks interesting, to say the least.

The sad news is the future of Star Wars comics at Dark Horse will take about a year to clarify according to the panel I went to.
