A wonderful fusion of comics, art, and fellowship as some of my favorite artistic worlds and families collide this week!

First off my new friend the fabulous Blair Butler excitedly informed me that we would be on a panel together at Image Expo 2012! She speaks of course of our upcoming Womanthology panel which Blair will be moderating and I will be sharing with Bonnie Burton, Mariah Huehner, Trina Robbins, and Fiona Staples! I am very excited. As you all know I’ve been with these lovely ladies since we were just a dream in Renae De Liz’s heart and an announcement from our mutual friend Steve Niles. It is to date one of the best projects I have ever been involved in and I am endlessly proud of us!

On Saturday night I headed out with two very awesome stops in mind. The first being the art opening of my friend Brandi’s husband at our always rocking Hyaena Gallery.

Now when Brandi told me her husband painted watercolors I had no idea she meant watercolors like these. Seriously, our B.T. Borchard gallery boasted some of the most amazing watercolor paintings I have ever seen. If you’re local you can come by and see them until February 15th. They’re huge by the way. You can also view them or order them online here on Hyaena’s site.

I also dropped off my latest painting for our gallery, “Under Wicked Sky”. Very pleased with how the texture turned out!

After Hyaena we headed off to meet up with our friends Monica Richards and Steve Niles at Monica’s NAIADES release party hosted by Bar Sinister where Monica is a known and beloved regular. We were also pleased to see our gallery supporting the party despite it being on the same night. I love that all of us Hyaena contributors really are a family, even our owner Bill Shafer was bummed to be missing Monica and Steve’s special night.

We hung out till the wee hours chatting with Steve, Monica, and all our friends in attendance as the red lights shone down on us like blood and the music pulsed throughout the air commandingly.

Monica even surprised me with a copy of her amazing hard copy album release book. Full of paintings by brilliant artists, including a beautiful work by our mutual friend Bill Sienkiewicz for Monica’s lovely track “The Strange Familiar” which jumped out at me immediately as I was first flipping through.

If you are into gothic music and art, I can easily say you will be enjoying this work of beauty just as much as I.

On Sunday I began working on some cute cards for sick kiddos. I stumbled upon this way to help while looking up ways to volunteer at the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital and knew I just had too. Here’s some more details if any of  you would like to make some yourself!

Happy news abounded on Monday and Tuesday as Renae De Liz and I emailed back and forth over great things in Womanthology! For starters we are launching a Valentine’s Day special and this time there might even be some gentlemen involved!

I myself have been having a blast inking my one shot contribution and can’t wait to start on colors tomorrow. Trouble the kitten loves to offer his assistance as well.

Finally, today as I was putting the final touches on my inking, yet another mutual friend Mr. Chris Ryall of IDW posted this awesomeness on his twitter.

Needless to say, this has been an amazing week for all of my friends, and I am so happy we all get to keep sharing amazing things like this together. I will always love that ours is an industry of heart, and I am so very proud of each and every one of us. – N
