This is the show that almost didn’t happen. Well in a sense it did happen – some weeks ago I interviewed Kill Shakespeare co-creator Conor McCreery for the Comic Booked Podcast. The call itself had been painstakingly arranged to accommodate the time difference between Australia and Canada, and for a podcast starting out of the gate so early in its relaunch an interview with one of the creators of such a great book was seen as something of a coup.
Then those two most hated words in communications circles raised their ugly heads – ‘Technical. Difficulties.’
The interview was lost, including a spontaneous rant about how amazing artist Andy Belanger’s use of comic panels is, and a side note explaining how William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest relates to stoner cinema classic The Big Lebowski. I returned to the wonderful, generous, warm (he’s a smart dresser too) Mr McCreery, begging forgiveness – mea culpa, mea maxima culpa – and he agreed to take part in a second recording.
Phew! And that’s the show that’s going live this Wednesday.
Kill Shakespeare is published by IDW and comes from the creative team of Conor McCreery, Anthony Del Col and artist Andy Belanger. Check out the show for a whirlwind discussion of Shakespeare elitism, the Bard’s influence on comics and creator rights.
And yes – this time the recording did work. Enjoy folks!
