City of Heroes Will Shut Down By 2013

Christian Johnson 09/04/2012 Reviews

City of Heroes, the first ever Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game that features superheroes, is unfortunately shutting down. Yep, by 2013 fans of the popular MMORPG will no longer be able to create their own superhero and free-roam around a fictional city amongst other costumed heroes and heroines. Andy Belford, Community Manager at Paragon Studios, the studio responsible for City of Heroes, had this to say about this turn of events:

City of Heroes will be closing its doors by the end of the year due to a decision by parent company NCsoft. In a realignment of company focus and publishing support, NCsoft has made the decision to close Paragon Studios. Effective immediately, all development on City of Heroes will cease and we will begin preparations to sunset the world’s first, and best, Super Hero MMORPG before the end of the year. As part of this, all recurring subscription billing and Paragon Market purchasing will be discontinued effective immediately. We will have more information regarding a detailed timeline for the cessation of services and what you can expect in game in the coming weeks.

As sad as this news is, it is not unexpected. City of Heroes has been around for a very long time folks. Seriously, it predates DC Universe Online by nearly seven years, yes, seven years! But alas this widely popular superhero game has seen its final days and will go down in history as one of PC’s best superhero based games.

Not if we have anything to say about it.

That petition is over 11,000 signatures strong and counting. Please go over and sign it to show NCSoft that there are so many people heartbroken and willing to fight.

I've been a player since 2008, This is far from expected since Paragon Studios was about to release Issue 24. the News was a complete shock to all of her Heroes and Villians that roam her street. As a Community we refuse to go without a Fight.

The manner of which NCSoft gave City of Heroes notice of the closing of our world was in my opinion short and rude. It's like being in a loving relationship only to find out your love was cheating on you, and wants you out for the cow!!

City of heroes was awesome, I loved it and have not enjoyed played anything else, so far, compared to it..I hate it''s gone, I wish some other game co. buy's it with all content intact, so that I can apply to them as I once was. I am a lifetime member of star trek online and tho, I like the game, I don't feel the same as I did with city of heroes.
