This weekend at C2E2 Marvel held what has become one of their staple panels, the Cup O’ Joe. Cup O’ Joe is the panel at which  Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer (and former Editor in Chief) Joe Quesada has a Q&A with a horde of ravenous fans, usually accompanied by a few other Marvel staff members to help field questions. This weekend’s panel also included current Editor in Chief Axel Alonso, along with Jason Aaron, Dan Slott, Rick Remender, Jeph Loeb, C.B. Cebulski, and Arune Singh.

Hawkeye Number One

In addition to a general Q&A, the Cup O’ Joe Panel brought us a few exciting announcements about Marvel’s upcoming plans. The first – and probably most important – announcements is that the previously announced new series written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by David Aja will be a new Hawkeye ongoing. It was also announced that Jeph Loeb would be revisiting and resolving a story line he began five years ago in an upcoming Wolverine story arc called Sabertooth Reborn. A final announcement came in reference to the creative team of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. In addition to the already announced Powers: F.B.I. ongoing, the pair will also be working on their creator owned graphic novel Takio 2.

The question and answer portion of the panel got underway as fans asked some generic questions but some interesting ones as well. The first generic question came from a young fan who asked how one can break into Marvel Comics to which Quesada responded with a simple instruction to self publish before trying to break into Marvel. Another fan questioned whether digital publishing would help expedite the canceling of books. Quesada assured the fan that this was not the case, indicating that it should do the opposite instead. In response to a question asking if Marvel would be visiting any of its cosmic properties, Axel Alonso said that “Nova had been put in the spotlight for a reason”, referring to his appearance in AvX. Some other questions asked by fans questioned Nova’s love for dubstep, Kate Bishop’s role in the new Hawkeye book, and whether or not we would be seeing characters like Daniel Hellstrom and Mephisto any time soon.
