C2E2: Amazing Spider-Man Panel News

Seth Jacob 04/14/2012 Reviews

C2E2 is currently going on in Chicago, and there’s been a lot of exciting news.  Here’s the latest information to come out of Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man Panel!

Dan Slott on Amazing Spider-Man, Ends of The Earth, and The Lizard:

“Spider-Man is facing off with Black Widow and Silver Sable against Sandman in the desert.” “There is going to be a major status quo change for Mary Jane in ‘Ends of the Earth.’

A story arc, coming out around the time of the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man movie, titled “No Turning Back” will star The Lizard.  Slott hinted that his direction with the Lizard will have an influence from Zeb Well’s work on the character.

“I loved Zeb Wells’ story ‘Shed,’ which left the Lizard in a very dark place.”

Slott also teased that there would be a Goblin-centric story arc following No Turning Back, most likely featuring Hobgoblin if our own Nick Cavicchio’s interview with the writer is any indication.

“Now that his spider senses are back, he has an advantage because he has the way of the spider. Spider-Fu!” “When ‘Avengers vs. X-Men’ is over you’re going to see big seismic changes to the Marvel Universe.  That also seems to happen right around Spider-Man #700.”

Venom News: Rick Remender, writer of Venom, talked a little bit about his upcoming story arc “The Savage Six“, an obvious twist on the supervillain team The Sinister Six.

“There’s a lot of energy in the room to what we’re building here.  The Crime Master knows Flash is Venom.  All the villains Flash has encountered during the series all culminate here in this big story.  He needs to be the darker mirror image of Peter.  We’ve known this endgame for a while and we’ve been building to this for a while. If you like seeing Flash Thompson’s life suck you’re going to like this story. It’s one of the best things I’ve been associated with. I’m very proud of it. It’s not just Norman finding out Peter Parker’s Spider-Man.  It’s a gang lord knowing that you’re Venom. Eddie Brock has been Van Helsing style hunting all the symbiotes.  He seems to think there’s an alien invasion coming. I wouldn’t completely discount Eddie as crazy.”

Spider-Men News: Axel Alonso, editor in chief of Marvel Comics, noted that ,”You can imagine how mind-bending it would be to encounter a Peter Parker from another universe.” Director of Communications Arune Singh added, “Ultimate Gwen Stacy does play a role in this story, which adds some nuance to the series.”

Scarlet Spider News: Assistant Editor Tom Brennan revealed that Anna Kraven, the original Kraven’s daughter, will be appearing in Scarlet Spider. Artist Ryan Stegman will be leaving the title and replaced by Khoi Pham.  Stegman will be working on Fantastic Four with Jonathan Hickman.
