Breaking: Peter David Has Had a Stroke

Just announced via legendary writer Peter David’s own twitter account:

“I have had a stroke.”

The current X-Factor and Castle scribe went into slightly greater detail on his own website, explaining, “We were on vacation in Florida when I lost control of the right side of my body. I cannot see properly and I cannot move my right arm or leg. We are currently getting the extent of the damage sorted out and will report as further details become clarified.”
Both the comic community and the fiction world are buzzing on twitter, facebook, and all other forms of social media, as we all try our best to formulate a rational reaction to such a great tragedy. David often times has referred to himself as a “writer of stuff,” just one of numerous examples of times that he has nonchalantly acknowledged yet simultaneously dismissed that he is in fact a legend among men.

Most famous at DC Comics, Marvel Comics, IDW, and other various independent publishers for his portrayal of deep and emotional characters, often times funny, tragic, and heroic to a fault.  My personal favorite of his work was his legendary run on The Incredible Hulk for Marvel Comics, but I will always hold a special place in my heart for his greatly underappreciated run on the should-be classic series, Young Justice, for DC Comics.  He is also famous for his work on DC’s unique and widely debated Supergirl in one of her most famous but confusing and though-provoking incarnations throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s as the character was relicensed and renamed Fallen Angel over at IDW.  His other DC contributions include lengthy runs on Aquaman and Star Trek.  His Marvel work includes equally long tenures penning Wolverine, She-Hulk, X-Men, and Spider-Man. And we cannot fail to mention his numerous other projects, such as his novelist career, a few scripted television shows, and regularly-updated and often times humorous twitter feed and columns in various professional comic book periodicals.  His witty dialogue and knack for realistic heart-breaking drama in superhero books has made him one of the greatest working writers in the industry, and I am not ashamed to say one of my favorites. Anyone who can take a concept or a character that I care little or nothing about and make me hold my breath in anticipation of the next issue year after year is truly a rare talent.
