BOOM! In Review BOOM! Studios Logo
Welcome to BOOM! In Review, a column taking a look at some of the most recent and notable releases from BOOM! Studios! BOOM! publishes a variety of unique books, ranging from all ages content to non-traditional superhero stories. They work with the likes of Mark Waid, Stan Lee, and Grace Randolph, along with a number of other story and visual artists who I believe deserve to become household names as well. The week of November 14, 2012 was a spectacular week! Let’s dive in, shall we?

Adventure Time Scream Queens from BOOM!Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens #5 – In issue number five of this Adventure Time Presents miniseries, we see that parents can be a drag even for dimension hopping rock musicians! Marceline finds out that some demons will follow you anywhere, even into a place called the Nightosphere. Will self-doubt break up the band, or is this the kind of adventure where you discover your true dreams while pursuing others? The tale will be concluded next month!

Extermination from BOOM!Extermination #6 – It’s always a spectacular week when Extermination comes out! Issue six continues our rag-tag band’s assault on the invading alien base, and puts our main characters in more icky moral situations. Battlefield romances and betrayals abound, both in the current story as well as the flashbacks. Female Nox was a neat treat, but more and more I continue to think Red Reaper is the real main character here. I’m honestly not sure if he is actually getting away with fooling Nox, or if Nox is just playing along, but I have a feeling when we find out I’m going to be kicking myself and exclaiming “I should have known!”

Fanboys vs Zombies from BOOM!Fanboys vs. Zombies #8 – This month the Wrecking Crew encounters such an absurd situation that it almost makes Extermination look tame by comparison. The team puts together some of the pieces and solves a bit of this odd zombie behavior, all while quoting Terminator, the Fantastic Four, and communicating in internet meme speak.

Next week is going to be a big one for BOOM! Studios, including the start of a brand new ongoing Supurbia series!
