Blink Returns In The Pages Of New Mutants

Ever since the Age Of Apocalypse storyline back in 1996, Blink has been one of the most recognizable fan-favorite mutant running around the Marvel Universe, so much so that demands from fans prompted Marvel to give the purple-skinned bad-ass her own limited series, and also to make her part of the long-running Exiles series. Though the Exiles has come and gone, Blink received a few extra moments of stardom when she appeared as a pawn of Selene in the Chris Yost penned Necrosha. Thankfully, her appearance in Necrosha has whetted fans appetites enough for them to begin frothing for more Blink. Even more thankfully, Marvel is giving in.

The fan-demanded return of Blink drags Dani Moonstar and her team of New Mutants right into the heart of X-Men Regenesis! Beginning in New Mutants #34, from the critically acclaimed writing team of Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning and artist David Lopez, Cyclops gives the New Mutants no time to rest as he sends them on a wild goose chase across the Marvel Universe. What has Blink done to require immediate extraction and is she to blame? Sinister things are afoot this November, in New Mutants #34!

Most incarnations of Blink have stemmed from the Age of Apocalypse. The 616 version of Blink died in a freighter in the middle of the ocean while fighting Harvest during the Phalanx Covenant storyline, which is, of course, the reason Selene was able to resurrect her from the dead to use in her evil plans. But it looks like Blink will be returning to the X-Men, either under her own will, or against it. Has she seen the error of her ways and ready to atone for her evils deeds? Or does her past catch up to her, forcing Cyclops to keep an eye on her?

Another big question is whether the move to bring Blink back has anything to do with Marvel’s upcoming Age Of Apocalypse on-going storyline? It seems that the AOA characters are making their way around the regular Marvel U, with the AOA Nightcrawler joining up with X-Force. Is the remergence of Blink a push to bring the spotlight back to the Age Of Apocalypse characters?
