It looks like our nerdy, geeky, funny California friends will be on the small screen for a few more years. The Big Bang Theory just got renewed by CBS for three additional seasons which will bring its total to 10, assuming this is the last renewal the incredibly popular series receives. The extension brings The Big Bang Theory through 2017 and CBS hopes that it continues to be the most-watched comedy on television, especially since its other powerhouse comedy, How I Met Your Mother, ends this season.
The Big Bang Theory, aired in September of 2007 and is currently averaging 19.79 million viewers per episode, which is up 4% from last season. The series has also received several awards including People’s Choice Awards for “Favorite TV Comedy” in 2010, 2013 and 2014. Star of the series, Jim Parsons has won three Emmy’s for his performance on the series. He won “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series” in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
The Chuck Lorre show (Rosanne), stars, left to right, Simon Helberg (Howard), Kaley Couco-Sweeting (Penny), Melissa Rauch (Bernadette), Mayim Bialik (Amy), Jim Parsons (Sheldon), Johnny Galecki (Leonard), and Kunal Nayyar (Raj). For those unfamiliar with the series, it follows Leonard and Sheldon, roommates, along with their neighbor across the hall, Penny. While Leonard and Sheldon are highly intelligent university professors, Penny is a fun-loving, aspiring actress currently working at the Cheesecake Factory, but her big break could be at any moment. Howard and Raj are friends from the same university while Amy is currently dating Sheldon and Bernadette is married to Howard.
The show airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM on CBS.
