Hope, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Lei Kung make it through the portal before Namor reaches Wakanda and the Avengers are forced to act. We get images of the people of Wakanda drowning and being attacked by sea monsters as Namor engulfs Black Panther’s homeland in a submersion of water. It comes down to a fight between Namor and the Black Panther and Captain America. Namor continues to show off and whoop some ass while the Avengers do everything they can to stop him. As Namor holds Black Panther around the neck, the rest of the Avengers arrive: Vision, Beast, Red Hulk, Spider-Man, Falcon, Thing, Doctor Strange, Valkyrie, and Quicksilver. Namor wipes the floor with all the Avengers. We cut to Utopia as Cyclops and the rest of the Phoenix Five. Magneto joins them to see Namor attacking Wakanda. Emma continues playing mind games as she makes it seem like happen stance that Namor found the Avengers. Thor and Namor have a fight that can only compared to a fight between Gods; Wanda shows up which means now its really a party. Wanda blasts Namor with everything she has, knocking him, and herself, out. He attempts to stand up but the Thing kicks him like a football, sending him sailing across the ground. The Phoenix Force has left Namor. He is now helpless.
Namor’s portion of the Phoenix gets divided up among the other member of the Phoenix Five, making each of them stronger. Professor X sends a telepathic message to Scott telling him this ends now. Cyclops tells him he can’t stop them but Xavier says he can and he will. The Avengers make their escape to K’un-Lun but realize that though the number of Phoenix-powered enemies may be less, the threat level has not dropped.
So there you have it. The most arrogant person to walk the face of the Earth as been de-powered. No more Namor being a baby about everything. Personally, I loved Namor being part of the Phoenix Five and felt he brought new life to a very tame X-Men franchise. No matter how lame this Avengers vs. X-Men has been to long time readers, this reader sees a very bright light at the end of the tunnel. Not to mention I have absolutely loved this event so far. I hate that once again the X-Men are going to be the ones to lose but I’m pretty used to that by now. One day the X-Men will be a title that is adored and loved again. While this issue was huge, it was hands down one of the most disappointing. Even though big things happened it felt rushed and there wasn’t enough time to reflect. Namor went down. Xavier threatened his favorite student. The other four got more powerful but it still didn’t have the fun factor the rest of the event has had so far. Round Nine better bring the heat.
