Buckle your seat belts everyone because the countdown has finally begun. This morning Marvel Studios released the first official trailer for Joss Whedon’s Avengers. Though the movie has been on the tips of tongues for a long time, and we even got a teaser at the end of Captain America, with the release of the first trailer we officially start the countdown to the May 14 release. That’s right, only 216 days until we find out if the most in depth and comprehensive movie plan in comic book history will pay off.
The movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson, as they resume their previous Marvel roles as a team. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger each had a small part in leading the story to this point. The trailer itself opens with our presumed villain, Loki (Hiddleston), claiming that humans were “meant to be ruled” and, as if in antithesis to the Avengers, that “every man is for them self” in the coming war. We then get some great shots of everyone on the team, including some banter between Downey and Evans, and later on Ruffalo. Add a couple of explosions and some rocking music and well there you have it, blockbusterific.
I for one have high hopes for the film, and am excited most about seeing Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. It will also be interesting to see how Whedon is able to handle such a large cast, both allowing everyone to get their time and the movie to progress without it being seven hours long. Are you excited? Take a look at the trailer below or click over to iTunes for the High Definition version, then let us know what you think in the comments.

It’s nice; even in a short trailer I can see the Whedon-y dialogue shining through. Love it!
This film looks awesome.
This movie is going to kick @$$! I can’t wait.
Ho. Lee. Crap. I cannot wait for this movie. So exciting!
Holy crap this looks fantastic!
I am super excited. Anyone in FL in May let me know and we will do it right, Cine Bistro style!!
As if I wasn’t excited enough for this flick, the trailer blasts NIN! Not to mention that it’s my single favorite NIN song n_n This movie looks so good!
Me too, Jordan! That song is perfect for the trailer! Speaking of which… Oh. My. GOD. That looks amazing!
That was so sick! Tony stark is so funny.
Fantastic!!! I cannot wait until May. It was awesome to get to see a little more of Iron Man/Tony Stark who was somewhat missing from previous footage. Joygasm!!!
I AM SO THERE. Is it too early to start camping out at the theater, or should I wait a month out?
Wow! This looks amazing, great job your site was one of the first sites all over this! I will be by more often as I always like to be the first to see/know things lol
Is it wrong if the number one thing I got from the Avengers trailer is that Scarlett looks great in a tight black suit?
Seriously though, this will crush the box office!
May can’t get here soon enough!
It looks cool but I don’t think it will meet the hype
Looks awesome…is Loki the only villain is this movie…have they confirmed Skrulls or Kree?
I think it will meet and exceed the hype. The talent behind the screen is just as good as the talent on the screen.
I can’t see this movie sucking. The odds are too much in its favor, with the talent involved.
I am pretty happy with the look of this so far. I remember seeing Kevin Smith back in Dublin opining (the man does not lack for opinions) that Whedon faced an impossible task in trying to ‘assemble’ this picture together.
Look at the trailer though. It’s just a bunch of characters, in a room together, each with a different point of view trying to solve problems.
….said problems appear to involve an alien invasion of some kind, but STILL. It’s called character interaction Mr Smith!
