Nick Fury was first known to be active during World War II. During the war Fury lead a team of the best soldiers in the world, The Howling Commandos (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 9652-HC68. These ‘Commandos’ went on to be active in the Korea conflict as well as Vietnam. During the final weeks of World War II Fury suffered a near fatal land mine injury, however was rescued by Berthold Sternberg whom used Fury as a test subject for his infinity formula. After successfully saving Fury’s life, Sterberg proceeds to extort large sums of money from Fury for continued access to the formula, which he would have died without. Fury’s body has accumulated enough of the serum that it no longer relies on annual injections.
After The War
In the years following World War Two, Fury became an active member of the O.S.S. and later the C.I.A. During his time with the C.I.A. Fury worked closely with Agents Richard and Mary Parker, the parents of future hero Spider-Man (H.A.M.M.E.R File 7628-AF15). Later Fury became the C.I.A.’s unofficial contact person for many of the newly powered heroes and teams that began to appear.
Fury was soon recruited to become the director of the newly formed S.H.I.E.L.D. (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 6358-sh18). Initially the mission of S.H.I.E.L.D was to combat terrorist forces, mainly HYDRA (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 4020-hi45) however grew into a larger anti-terrorism group and later a global law enforcement agency. During his time with S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury formed secret alliances with various world governments as well as various super hero teams, most notably the Avengers (H.A.M.M.E.R. Filee 9428-AV54). Fury eventually disbands the original S.H.I.E.L.D. after learning it had fallen under the control of a group of life model decoys, then rebuilds the organization under his total control and supervision.
Death of Nick Fury
Under Nick Fury’s supervision, S.H.I.E.L.D.captures and holds The Punisher ( H.A.M.M.E.R. File 8745-GE92) however, while undergoing psychological evaluation the vigilante escaped and had apparently killed Nick Fury, believing he was responsible for the death of his family. It later became evident that the Fury the Punisher had killed was a life model decoy. The real Fury was actually in hiding.
Shortly after his apparent death and return from hiding, Fury recruited a team of heroes including Captain America (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 6289-SR01), Spider-Man, Luke Cage (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 5249-PM09), Wolverine (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 9842-WL06), Daredevil (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 5169-MM87, and the Black Widow (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 9632-NR03) for an illegal secret invasion of Latveria. Fury had evidence that Latveria
was going to invade America one year after the invasion took place, however Fury’s invasion was done outside the confines of the law and forced him into hiding afterwards. The listed heroes have no recollection of the events in question.
Fury’s high rank within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization afforded him knowledge unknown to other members of the agency. This knowledge includes the location and access to a number of hidden bases that Fury has used to his advantage during the Super Hero Civil War and his subsequent actions against Hydra and Leviathan with his Secret Warriors (H.A.M.M.E.R. File 67bmb-jh76). Fury Remains underground but stays in contact with various heros and other trusted individuals.
