For those not in the know, Crossed is a very adult horror comic and probably not for the faint of heart or easily offended, so obviously I love it. The world of Crossed is plagued by a virus that causes the infected to become psychotic, homicidal maniacs and make their most twisted desires become reality. The infected are marked by a cross-shaped rash on their faces and best avoided if possible. The infection is contagious and spread by bodily fluids. The story and world of Crossed is debauched, violent, gory and one that I really enjoy.
Crossed is a creator-owned series, created by Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows (two guys I REALLY respect) in 2008. So far there has been the first Crossed volume, Crossed: Family Values, and currently Crossed: Psychopath. David Lapham took over writing duties in the second series and continues in the current Psychopath run. Gainluca Pagliarni has done the art in this 3-D book and looks to maintain the high artistic standards I associate with all Avatar books.
Even if you are unfamiliar with Crossed, I doubt you will remain in such a state for long. As I reported back during Emerald City Comicon in March, Crossed has been optioned and will be made into an indie film with the screenplay written by Ennis himself. I can hardly wait!
I love the art in these books. Jacen Burrows does cover work on the Crossed books and confessed to me during ECCC that it is some of the work that he is most proud of. I know, I know, I keep praising the art. If only there was a way I could just show you. Oh wait, there is! Avatar has released a good sized preview to Crossed 3-D for your viewing pleasure. The issue will obviously ship with3-D glasses, but if you are like me and have some sitting around the house, grab them and take a gander! No glasses? I will post a link at the bottom of this article for a 3-D free preview.
So if that looks like something you might be interested in, you can pick it up with you new comics on Wednesday (tomorrow as of this writing) for $8.99. I know I will be getting it for sure! I love Avatar’s books and hope you will too. Check back here at Comic Booked for a review of Crossed 3-D!
