What is the Hero Code? Is it a right of passage? Is it the beginning of the end? Is it a strict moral code to be upheld by the champions of this world? The answer is far more complex, my friends. Today, we will take a sneak peak at the world of the Hero Code and shed some light on this fascinating enigma. But how do we some up the Hero Code? Why don’t we let writer Jamie Gambell do the honors?

The premise behind the series is that every human on the planet holds within them a genetic coding which grants the carrier great powers. The catch – this code only activates when we are faced with near-extinction level threats. The series explores ideas about time, reality, and what it means to be a hero.

Gambell is the both the writer and creator of this new series, on which he teams up with artist Jonathan Rector, colorist by Heather Breckel, and cover artist Drew Johnson. Having read the preview pages, I will say this: the artwork looks amazing. It is very vibrant and colorful, and seems to be a homage to the super hero stories of old, despite being paired with a tight, contemporary story. The series consists of five self contained stories, which will interconnect to form a single, overarching narrative. Some of the stories in the series have already caught my interest, and I am particularly looking forward to The Coming of the Occultist!

Gambell has had a passion for comics since his primary school days, when he used to write short stories. He nurtured that passion, and in 2009 had his first series published by Ronin. That series was Omnitarium, a gothic horror tale set in the Victorian era. When he isn’t writing comics, he works as a sound engineer in Hollywood. Gambell is currently funding his work through Kickstarter, and will continue accepting donations until August 8th. He has raised an impressive amount so far, and every donation will serve to fund the series.

  1. DUDE! I donated to this! The pitch thing was really well done. This concept sounds so cool!

  2. I gave as well and should appear as a character in one of the issues. Couldn't resist.
