Matt Kindt (W/A/Cover)
On sale Apr 3
FC, 24 pages
Just in time for the first collection, the sold-out MIND MGMT #1 is back in print—for $1! Now’s your chance to catch up with Matt Kindt’s brilliant tale of lost memories, the Mind Management psychic spy agency, its most infamous defector, and the journalist who uncovers their incredible secrets!
• Try MIND MGMT for just $1!
• Named one of the top ten comics of 2012 by MTV Geek!

One of the reasons I wanted to check this out is because I currently don’t read ANY Dark Horse titles, and they seem indie enough to have some more creative titles. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Mind Mgmt and I actually really enjoy anything dealing with spies and espionage and government cover-ups. So I hope to pick up this title soon! -Tatiana Christian

1 FOR $1: THE MASSIVE #1The Massive
Brian Wood (W/Cover), Kristian Donaldson (A), and Dave Stewart (C)
On sale Apr 3
FC, 32 pages
In a post-war, post-Crash, post-disaster, post-everything world, the environmental action trawler Kapital scours the earth’s oceans for its missing sister ship, The Massive, while struggling to redefine its core mission. Captain Callum Israel, a man who dedicated his life to the ocean, now must ask himself—as our planet dies—what it means to be an environmentalist after the world’s already ended.
• It’s the perfect intro to The Massive Volume 1!
• A great buy for new readers!

And speaking of The Massive:

THE MASSIVE #11The Massive
Brian Wood (W), Declan Shalvey (A), Dave Stewart (C), J. P. Leon (Cover)
On sale Apr 24
FC, 32 pages
Following a mutiny, the crew of the Kapital are in a race against time to catch their increasingly elusive sister ship, The Massive, when a school of aggressive great white sharks cross their path!
“Provocative, original, and fiercely intelligent.”—Comic Book Resources
“Much like DMZ, the glimpses of savagery [in The Massive] are unsettling because this world isn’t as divorced from ours as we’d like it to be.”—IGN

AMALA’S BLADE #1 (of 4)Amalas BladeAmalasBlade1
Steve Horton (W), Michael Dialynas (A/C/Cover), and Guy Davis (Variant cover)
On sale Apr 24
FC, 32 pages
The kingdom of Naamaron is bitterly divided into warring factions: the low-tech Purifiers and the high-tech Modifiers. Both fear the great vizier’s deadliest assassin, Amala. But for all her lethal skills, Amala’s drawing too much attention for the vizier’s taste. So what better way to deal with a troublesome cutthroat than to send her on a suicide mission?
• Nonstop, kickass fun!
• For fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Trigun, and Naruto.

While I’m not a fan of pirates or assassins, the overall hodgepodge of AMALA’S BLADE is hard to overlook. I’m curious about the science fiction aspect (my favorite genre) mingling with steam punk (my least favorite genre) and a whole bunch of other stuff. Looking forward to checking this out. -Tatiana Christian

Final Arc begins!
ANGEL & FAITH #21Angel & FaithAngel & Faith
Christos Gage (W), Rebekah Isaacs (A/Variant cover), Dan Jackson (C), and Steve Morris (Cover)
On sale Apr 24
FC, 32 pages
The time has come for Angel to make good on his promise to resurrect Giles—but at the same time, Season 9’s Big Bads, Pearl and Nash, together with Angel’s own mentor, Whistler, gather the final pieces needed to harness the last magical powers on Earth for their own apocalyptic plan.
• Executive produced by Joss Whedon!
• Angel’s moment of truth!
• Showdown with this season’s Big Bads!
• Distrust and accusations among the heroes!

Season 9 is eventually coming to a head and this has been my favorite book of the bunch. The artwork is consistent (not great but consistent), the storytelling is fantastic, and they even give a slight nod to the IDW series but probably can’t go too far into it since they’re at Dark Horse 100% now. But I would definitely recommend this issue, although if you haven’t read the rest of season 9 pick up a few trades and get caught up first! -Kelly Cassidy

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9 #20Buffy Season 9Buffy Season 9
Andrew Chambliss (W), Karl Moline (P), Andy Owens (I), Dexter Vines (I), Michelle Madsen (C), Phil Noto (Cover), and Georges Jeanty (Variant cover)
On sale Apr 10
FC, 32 pages
The loss of the world’s magic has finally hit Buffy. Hard. As friends and family continue to fall, Buffy is helpless. . . and Xander is beyond fed up with helplessness—and Buffy! He is so finally ready to do something about it!
• Special guest artist Karl Moline!
• Season 9 continues!
• Xander’s secret revealed!

This issue sounds like the shit hits the fan. Xander has too long been in the background, especially this season. In the series, we saw him lose an eye (to Nathan Fillion, no less) and then his ex-fiancee-who-he-still-loves was killed when the Hellmouth was opening up and the uber-vamps were around. Since then, he’s hooked up with Buffy’s sister (who was formerly a centaur, a giantess, and a Key (check out season 5 for that one)) but it sounds like he’s tired of waiting. The writing team got his persona down perfect for his return the other month – let’s see if that still holds. -Kelly Cassidy

Collecting Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike—A Dark Place #1–#5.

On sale Apr 10
FC, 32 pages
As Princess Leia’s stealth squadron lays a trap for the spy within their ranks, she soon realizes that the Rebels are ill prepared for the Empire’s zealous pursuit. • Classic era characters!
• Brian Wood! Alex Ross!

Brian wood writing Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, and the whole gang from the era of the original movies. And after reading #1, he loves the characters. You cannot beat this. A fan writing for the fans the stories we want to see. Even though I had some issues with the artwork in #1, it’s still leaps ahead of the old Marvel series for artwork so I’ll get it so long as the story is strong. -Kelly Cassidy

About The Author

I've been collecting comic books for over 20 years, over that time I've learned a lot about the history of the industry and that fascinates me so I'm always looking for new sources of information. If it's about comic books then I'm interested.

Try as I might I just can't really get in to Dark Horse, even with the properties they manage.

  2. jeffhillwriter 01/24/2013 at 3:04 am

The 1 for $1 idea is great. They should do it more often. Maybe a 2 for $2 followup issue for those that do well enough?
