Ant-Man Gains Director and Co-Writer

Ant-Man Director and WriterMarvel has been in the news frequently lately for the decisions being made behind the camera.  Notably, Marvel Studios split with Edgar Wright, the director and writer behind the upcoming Ant-Man film.

Wright had been with the project since 2012.  The separation, which was rumored to be an amicable split, seemingly came over creative differences for the project.  The film was left without the visionary behind the project and fans were left to wonder who Marvel would find to take his place.

Marvel has found their man to take control of the film.  In all actuality, Wright can rest easy knowing that Marvel brought in two men to fill his shoes.  Peyton Reed will take the director’s chair from Wright while Adam McKay will join the writing team for Ant-Man.

Reed is best known for his work as a director for Yes Man, Bring It On and The Break Up.  Adam McKay is best known for his work with Will Ferrell as a writer on Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and Step Brothers.

Neither of those descriptions sound like the description of a future Marvel director.

Marvel may be shooting for Ant-Man to join the direction of the current Guardians of the Galaxy, with a tongue-in-cheek look at super hero content.  It may be that Marvel simply has confidence in a pair of talented individuals despite the types of projects they have been associated with in the past.  That certainly would not come without precedence.

Marvel’s recent blockbuster, Captain America: The Winter Soldier went to the box office behind the direction of Anthony and Joe Russo.  The directorial brothers were known for their work on You, Me and Dupree and television’s Community prior to joining the Marvel family.

Ant-Man also gained an official plot description as well:

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

The Russo brothers have quite possibly laid the ground work that Reed and McKay will stand on when Ant-Man reaches the big screen.

Marvel fans will be counting on Reed and McKay to live up to the work the Russo brothers have done.
