What better way to kick off the new year than have a convention in the VERY FIRST week?! Jay company Comics http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100000520305376 kicked things off right by hosting the first annual Amazing Arizona Con in Mesa Arizona and they brought along some pretty high class folks.
I had the opportunity to attend this convention and I have to say, I was extremely surprised at the large turn out for a 1st year convention. Here is a brief recap of my incredibly filled 2 days:
I started Saturday at the convention by throwing on a handmade dress from the talented people at Oddity Commodity http://www.odditycommodity.com/(Provided by Evermore Nevermore http://www.evermorenevermore.com ) , some big ol’ boots and got myself moving! I entered the convention (which was already buzzing with attendees), and started my camera a’ rollin. My first stop was to visit our own Zenescope news lady Brieanna Brock who was decked out in a marvelously bloddy zombie outfit. After saying our hellos I made my way through the rows to find the Zenescope crew. Inker Nei Ruffino, writer Raven Gregory and artists Eric ‘Ebas’ Basaldua, Mike DeBalfo and colorist Milen Parvonov. Beside them sat Big Dog Inc, Brian Pulido with TONS of Lady Death and huge Atomic Comics table that spanned an entire end cap.
Then I saw it…..the line. Robert Kirkman was in a panel and apparently the line started without him. About 3-4 hours before him. Again, for a first time convention, the line for a single writer was more than impressive. Kirkman and a few of the cast sat for autographs and pictures later in the day and I was lucky enough to run into him later as he was walking around.
Throughout the first day I ran stopped by the Aspen booth, checked out the latest issue of Chew by Eisner award winner John Layman
Spotted Rob Lifeld, and Jeph Loeb hanging out with guest and enjoyed my first days getting stopped for pictures and being interviewed by the beautiful Jessica Nigri. After the convention there was an impromtu drink and draw with the guests at the Tilted Kilt for a few hours before everyone ran off to the fun after party events!
Sunday proved the most fun as I got my pictures with the guests for you all to check out. I have posted them on my facebook page for you all to check out and will be highlighting artists individually throughout the week.
