A First Look at Shadowman

The good folks at Valiant Comics have been pretty busy, producing some really amazing comics. Their Summer of Valiant relaunch has given us some pretty amazing reads in the form of the triumphant return of X-O Manowar, Harbinger, Archer & Armstrong and Bloodshot to our comic store shelves.

Shadowman 1 Cover by Patrick ZicherNow this November, the Valiant launches it’s fifth ongoing series: Shadowman!

Earlier this year, when Valiant was announcing its new line, and what titles were they were starting with as part of the Summer of Valiant, I will admit that I was was upset that Shadowman was not among them. But in hindsight, a series about a zombie fighting voodoo warrior seems much better suited to an autumnal launch.

Once again Valiant has gone out and gotten some amazing talent to re-introduce Shadowman to the 21st Century. The new series is written by Justin Jordan (The Strange Talent of Luther Strode), with art and covers by Patrick Zircher (Captain America).

While it looks like this series will take its cues from the original 90s series, like the previous four Valiant titles, this is the first series to take major story elements from the Acclaim era, with the inclusion of the Deadside, from Garth Ennis Shadowman series, which also featured heavily in the Acclaim video games.

Like all the other Valiant series launches, there are several variant covers available including the Pullbox Exclusive “Blackout” variant cover, by Peter Zircher (at right) only available to readers who put Shadowman #1 on their pull list at their local comic stores.

There are also two additional variant covers by David Johnson and comics legend Bill Sienkiewicz
