Welcome to day 28 of 31 Days! A celebration of all things spooky, creepy, chilling and thrilling from my comic book collection:
I’ve saved some of my favorites for last. If you haven’t heard of The walking Dead it will be hard to escape it after the premiere of the show October 31st. In the next two posts I’ll be spotlighting some of the scariest issues, it was a hard call this series consistently brings the chills and thrills.
In this issue we see Michonne get her well deserved revenge on the brutal Governor who has kept some of the crew captive . In the first couple of pages there is a brutal fight scene that I’ll admit I was very pleased with Michonne was getting her just revenge. As she holds her sword above the Governors head you think this is the culmination of her revenge and that she will now escape. Then Michonne utters those seven creepy words:
“I Don’t Want It To Be Over”
What happens over the next couple of pages is chilling. Michonne bites the Governor in the neck, rending chunks of his flesh after his failed attack attempt.
There are two panels of darkness and then we see a naked Governor tied and kneeling on the floor. Michonne shows the Governor the tools she is going to use on him:
I really don’t believe I took one single breath as I witnessed Michonne’s revenge. My imagination of what she would do with the tools paled in comparison to Robert Kirkman’s, THE THING WITH THE SPOON!!! AHHH! In the midst of her final actions tears begin to stream from Michonne’s eyes, her anger and revenge being sated she truly begins to feel the effects of the victimization she has experienced. Robert is a master of the true gift of Horror fiction: the capacity to explore the human condition. One of the scariest issues of the series.
